Flexibility for an Energized Athlete
Thinking of flexibility as it is viewed by most people immediately calls to my mind the image of lower back stretching. Not sure what I mean? Well, what did you think you were stretching when you rounded your back and bent over to touch your toes, or rounded your back during almost all floor stretches? Did you think you were making your hamstrings more flexible with those lower back stretches? On top of this overstretching (the lower back gets overstretched VERY easily), the fact that most people in Western society hardly ever build up the strength in their lower back... ...And when they do, they often do it WRONG... ...Compounded with the poor posture that seems to be a bigger epidemic than Miley Cyrus's singing voice makes back pain a condition that most people accept as a part of the "aging process", or they feel things are so hopeless for them that they're just destined to "live with it". Bull$#!@! Forgive me, I just found it exasperating when I learned the truth for myself. But it turns out that there are a good deal of things about stretching that the general public isn't aware of. Crucial things, like, - How to tell when you're stretching a ligament instead of a muscle, and how to avoid it at all costs, - Why strength and flexibility is important to protect your joints, including the precious vertebrae in your lower back, - How to use your breath as a weapon against tension, - How to USE tension to make your muscles relax more than ever before, and - Why you're ALREADY FLEXIBLE ENOUGH to do the splits, and how to conquer the things that are holding you back. These are important, yet almost unheard of aspects of stretching exercises that will take your flexibility to new heights. All right, let's get to it!
